Denver, Nov. 23 -- SMALL BOY, BIG GUN, BIGGER LION. Glenn Neigenfind, 12, of Denver grins as he 'throws down' with a large revolver on the carcass of a mountain lion. He used the big pistol to kill the lion after dogs treed it 15 feet above ground on a hunting trip in mountains southwest of Denver Saturday. Glenn will collect a $50 dollar state bounty." Shooting a mountain lion with a 6" .38 M&P is pretty impressive...
Notice that the finger is NOT on the trigger.
@ James – And Thank you for the link!
@ Tam – Yes it impressive. Although I don’t know the details I expect the lad had some backup, at least his Dad with a high-powered rifle and maybe an uncle or two.
@ BigFire – This photo is just full of win!
In most instances of Colorado lion hunting, the cat is treed with dogs and dispatched at close range, often with a .22. MY first thought was that the .38 Special was overkill, actually.
The bounty went away some time in the 1960s, I think. The old-time lion outfitters used that money to cover expenses such as dog food; then the client's fee was above and beyond it.
I guess that makes me a wimp because I was thinking at least 30-30.
Looks like he still living in Colorado.
This is my Uncle and yes; he, My Mother, and My Grandfather hunted Lions using dogs for Colorado ranchers during the 1950's.
